EFCC declares former Buhari Minister Sadiya Farouq wanted over alleged fraud

The EFCC has declared former minister Sadiya Umar Farouq wanted over alleged diversion of public funds tied to social intervention programmes.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over alleged abuse of office and diversion of public funds.

The declaration followed an arrest warrant reportedly issued by an FCT High Court after Farouq and former Permanent Secretary Bashir Nura Alkali failed to appear for arraignment in an alleged fraud case involving $1.3 million and N746.6 million.

According to the EFCC, the defendants face a 21-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and diversion of funds linked to the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office programme.

Part of the charge alleged that $1.3 million meant to be refunded to the ministry was diverted.

Neither Farouq nor her legal representatives had publicly reacted as of filing this report.
