A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested in Canada after police traced a stolen SUV that was fraudulently purchased and later shipped to Ghana, highlighting concerns over international vehicle theft networks. Authorities say the suspect allegedly used forged identification documents to acquire high-value vehicles before they were moved overseas.
According to Peoples Gazette, the investigation began after a Saskatchewan business reported that a Land Rover had been purchased using a fake identity. Working with multiple agencies, including the Canada Border Services Agency, investigators discovered the vehicle had already been shipped from British Columbia and eventually arrived in Ghana. Police later linked the suspect to a second fraudulent purchase involving a BMW X5.
The suspect, arrested in Edmonton, now faces several charges, including fraud, vehicle theft, identity-related offences, and the use of forged documents. Investigators say the case reflects a broader trend of stolen Canadian vehicles being exported to overseas markets. (Peoples Gazette Nigeria)
