The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified 47 senatorial aspirants, including high-profile politicians like former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, from contesting in its upcoming Senate primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the names of 47 senatorial aspirants who failed to clear the party’s official vetting process, disqualifying them from participating in the upcoming primary elections. The announcement was made on Monday in an official press statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who confirmed that the rigorous evaluation was executed strictly by the APC’s Screening Committees in accordance with established procedures and constitutional guidelines. The sweep marks a significant tightening of the party’s internal regulatory framework as it lays the groundwork for the 2027 general elections.
Several high-profile political figures were caught in the disqualification wave, notably media mogul Ben Murray-Bruce, the former senator who previously represented Bayelsa East, alongside his fellow district contender, Benson Agadaga. Regional clusters of disqualifications emerged across multiple geopolitical zones; Rivers West district recorded four unsuccessful aspirants, including Oyukaye Flag Amachree, Tamunobaabo Wemike Danagogo, Jack-Rich Tein, and the state’s former deputy governor, Banigo Ipalibo. Zamfara State suffered the heaviest blow, with a total of seven aspirants across its Central, North, and West senatorial districts failing to secure the required clearance.
While the ruling party outlined the geographic and individual scope of the screening results, the National Working Committee did not provide explicit administrative or legal reasons for why these specific candidacies were nullified. The breakdown of disqualified aspirants by state began with Adamawa, naming Hamish Idris and Abdurman Kwacham for the North district, followed by Chimzobam Kingsley Nnalue from Anambra North, and a substantial list under Bayelsa State. Party leadership emphasized that the screening outcomes are final, advising affected individuals to maintain party discipline as the APC finalizes its primary election schedules.
