Daily Post reports that APC chieftain Jonathan Vatsa has urged Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to pick a Christian running mate for 2027, warning of possible loss of votes over perceived marginalisation.
NIGER 2027 DEPUTY PICK
A chieftain of the APC in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has urged Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to pick a Christian running mate for the 2027 governorship election, warning that the party risks losing support over the marginalisation of Christians.
According to Daily Post, Vatsa said the APC’s recent primaries, which produced almost entirely Muslim candidates, had heightened concerns among Christians. He claimed only one Christian secured a State House of Assembly ticket, while all three senatorial candidates, 11 House of Representatives candidates and 26 of 27 House of Assembly candidates are Muslims.
Vatsa said choosing a Christian deputy would address the imbalance and strengthen the APC’s chances, adding that fairness in appointments mattered more than church visits or donations.
