Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appointed actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku Names Okonkwo
Former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate for 2027, Atiku Abubakar, has named Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson, according to Vanguard.
Okonkwo announced the appointment on his official X account on Thursday, thanking Atiku for the confidence reposed in him and describing the role as a significant responsibility. He said Atiku’s leadership style encourages dialogue and inclusiveness, noting that discussions with ADC leaders addressed concerns about the South-East’s political interests under the Electoral Act 2026.
The appointment comes weeks after Okonkwo criticised reports that the ADC was considering a South-South vice-presidential pick, arguing the South-East remained marginalised. The party later chose Rotimi Amaechi as running mate.
