At least 59 people have died in Ivory Coast since May as heavy rains and flooding continue to wreak havoc across several West African countries.
West Africa Flood Toll
Deadly floods have claimed 59 lives in Ivory Coast since the rainy season began in May, authorities said, as the crisis spreads across West Africa’s coast.
According to a report by Peoples Gazette, Ghana recorded 12 flood-related deaths this week after torrential rain submerged parts of Accra and surrounding areas. Flooding has also hit Benin, with forecasters warning of more heavy rain ahead along the Gulf of Guinea.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates 7.5 million people across the region are at risk. The rainy season typically runs April to August and October to November.
