Bandits planning mass kidnap of Edo schoolchildren, DSS warns

The DSS has warned of a suspected bandit plot to abduct schoolchildren in Edo State, particularly in the Edo North Senatorial District.

The Edo State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) has raised the alarm over a suspected plot by bandits to carry out mass abductions of schoolchildren across parts of the state.

According to PM NEWS, the warning was contained in an internal memo dated June 5, 2026, and addressed to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The DSS said intelligence was obtained from an intercepted conversation between two suspected bandits identified as Bawa and Nuhu, who allegedly discussed targeting schools in Edo North Senatorial District after failed attempts to kidnap wealthy individuals.

The memo stated: “During the conversation, the duo disclosed their plans to kidnap school children in Edo North Senatorial District.”

The agency also revealed that a 25-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Momidu, was arrested near Makeke Secondary School in Akoko Edo while allegedly conducting surveillance.

The DSS urged stronger security around schools and vulnerable communities.
