Suspected terrorists launched a midnight raid on a Police Mobile Force camp in Tenebo, Kwara State, on Saturday, killing three officers and injuring two others in a surprise attack that sent residents fleeing.
At least three police officers have been confirmed dead and two others seriously injured following a daring midnight attack by suspected terrorists on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The assailants, reportedly arriving in large numbers in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, 2026, launched a surprise offensive that caught the officers on duty off guard. The heavy exchange of gunfire triggered widespread panic across the agrarian community, forcing many residents to abandon their homes and flee into the surrounding bushes for safety as the gunmen temporarily overpowered the camp’s security.
A resident of the community, Suleiman Issa, recounted the horror of the invasion, noting that the attack began at approximately 1:00 a.m. while most villagers were asleep. He described a chaotic scene where the sheer number of bandits made it difficult for the immediate security detail to repel the intrusion. “This ugly killings happened at the early hours of 1am, just at midnight in Tenebo village, Kaiama. A terrible situation happened! Bandits came in their large numbers and invaded the villagers, people were killed and some were wounded,” Issa said. The attackers eventually withdrew from the village before a larger security reinforcement could arrive at the scene.
The Kwara State Police Command has officially confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who stated that a tactical team has been deployed to the area to restore order and track the fleeing perpetrators. This latest strike comes amid heightened security concerns in the Kaiama axis, which borders Niger State and has recently seen an influx of armed groups into its forest reserves. While the police command has vowed to bring the culprits to justice, the Tenebo community remains in a state of high tension, with many locals calling for a permanent military presence to prevent further incursions into the border local government area.
