Atiku explodes over ADC deregistration, accuses Tinubu of one-party plot

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has slammed a Federal High Court ruling deregistering the African Democratic Congress as “judicial rascality,” accusing President Tinubu of trying to weaken the opposition ahead of 2027.

Atiku Abubakar isn’t holding back.

The former vice president has torched a Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it nothing short of “judicial rascality,” according to PM News Nigeria.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu at the Federal High Court in Abuja, directed INEC to deregister the ADC alongside four other political parties over alleged failure to meet constitutional requirements for continued registration.

But Atiku — in a statement issued through his media adviser, Paul Ibe — isn’t buying the legal reasoning. He says it’s politics, plain and simple, and aimed squarely at 2027.

“The so-called deregistration of the African Democratic Congress along with other parties by Justice Peter Lifu may yet be the biggest manifestation of Tinubu’s hell-bent bid to undermine the opposition and entrench a de facto one-party state,” he said, before adding: “The judgment is the height of judicial rascality.”

He didn’t stop there. Atiku also alleged the ruling was delivered despite a pending appeal and an existing Court of Appeal order directing the Federal High Court to halt further action on the matter — meaning, in his view, the judge pressed ahead regardless.

With 2027 already looming large over Nigerian politics, this ruling — and Atiku’s furious response — is unlikely to be the last word on it.
