The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s corruption trial after two co-defendants failed to show up in court.
Another day, another delay. The corruption trial of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai suffered a fresh setback on Monday after two co-defendants went absent without explanation. The Punch reports that El-Rufai, who arrived court at 9:30am accompanied by ICPC officials, DSS operatives and police, was ready to proceed — but Justice Rilwanu Aikawa had no choice but to adjourn proceedings to June 24.
The ICPC is prosecuting El-Rufai over alleged abuse of office, financial impropriety and fraud during his eight-year tenure. Prosecutors claim public funds were released for projects never executed. El-Rufai maintains all actions during his administration were lawful.
