ADC, Accord barred from 2027 elections as court orders deregistration of five parties

Federal court orders INEC to deregister ADC, Accord and three other parties ahead of 2027 elections

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister five political parties — the African Democratic Congress, Accord, Action Alliance, Action Peoples Party and Zenith Labour Party — after ruling they failed to secure the constitutional minimum of 25 per cent of votes in the last general elections.

Justice Peter Lifu, who dismissed all preliminary objections filed by the defendants, also barred the five parties from participating in the 2027 general elections.

The suit was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, which argued that none of the parties had effectively countered its case, per Punch.
