Soldier, four captives killed after foiled abduction of Chinese nationals in Ogun

A joint security operation to rescue Chinese expatriates from kidnappers in Ogun State ended in tragedy, with a soldier and four hostages killed.

According to Vanguard, troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade and police officers responded to a distress call from a dredging site in Magbon Village, Obafemi-Owode LGA, where armed men attempted to abduct Chinese workers.

The security team engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, killing one kidnapper and forcing others to flee. However, the attackers reportedly seized five people as human shields during their escape.

The army said four of the hostages were later killed by the kidnappers, while one escaped and alerted authorities. A soldier also lost his life, while another soldier and two police officers sustained gunshot wounds. Security agencies have since intensified patrols as efforts continue to track down the fleeing suspects.
