Eight foreign nationals arrested in Ogun over alleged fake kidnapping

Eight foreign nationals have been arrested in Ogun State after police uncovered what authorities described as a carefully orchestrated fake kidnapping plot aimed at extorting money from a family abroad.

According to Peoples Gazette, detectives from the Ifo Division swooped on a hideout in Adiyan Town, Agbado, following intelligence reports that a Mauritanian man had claimed he was kidnapped in Nigeria and demanded ransom from relatives overseas.

Investigators said the supposed victim was allegedly part of the scheme. Police identified suspects from Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire and Benin Republic.

The Ogun State Police Command said key suspects have confessed to their roles, while investigators probe possible links to wider transnational criminal networks. The case has been transferred to the State CID.
