The Federal Government has sounded the alarm over the growing impact of climate change, warning that it now poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s food supply, livelihoods and national security.
Speaking during a World Environment Day dialogue in Abuja, the Director of the Department of Climate Change, Iniobong Abiola-Awe, said rising temperatures, extreme weather events and environmental degradation are already affecting communities across the country.
As Punch reports, government officials noted that changing rainfall patterns, flooding and drought are disrupting farming activities, driving food inflation and worsening clashes between farmers and herders.
The FG also highlighted ongoing efforts to tackle the crisis, including the Climate Change Act, Energy Transition Plan and Great Green Wall Initiative, while urging young Nigerians to become champions of climate action.
