‘Ilebaye broke an electric lantern on my head’ – BBNaija star’s father breaks silence

Emmanuel Odiniya, father of BBNaija winner Ilebaye Odiniya, has attributed their recent viral altercation to years of family tension and a breakdown in their relationship following her rise to fame.

Emmanuel Odiniya, the father of 2023 Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye Odiniya, has broken his silence regarding a viral altercation with his daughter, claiming the incident was the result of long-standing family friction rather than a lack of love. In a voice recording shared by journalist Jeremiah Ocheme, Mr. Odiniya expressed frustration over what he described as a drastic change in Ilebaye’s character after her reality show victory. He highlighted his significant role in her success, stating, “During her time in the Big Brother Naija house, I contributed a lot. I stood by my daughter and made sure people voted for her massively. I used my influence and connections, including governors and other people, to support her until she won.”

However, the elder Odiniya alleged that fame negatively impacted their bond, claiming that Ilebaye began to ignore his guidance and neglected him during a health crisis. He recounted a specific instance where he requested financial assistance for medical treatment in Dubai, which she allegedly refused despite her public displays of wealth. “I am very sick and needed to go for medical treatment in Dubai. I called Ilebaye to help me with some money and promised to refund her. She said she didn’t have money. But I saw her video spraying bundles of naira at a colleague’s wedding,” he alleged. He further noted his disapproval of her lifestyle choices, adding, “I warned her against getting cosmetic surgery — face reconstruction with fillers and BBL. She’s too young for that.”

Addressing the physical nature of their recent conflict, Mr. Odiniya accused the reality star of being the aggressor in multiple instances. He claimed that she had previously assaulted him with an “AC hanger” and alleged that the latest fight escalated only after she attacked him first. “In this recent incident, she insulted me, hit me first with a sea hanger, causing bleeding, pushed me, and then broke an electric lantern on my head,” he alleged. Despite the gravity of the accusations, he maintained that his daughter remains “one of my best children,” insisting his public statement was intended solely to “put the records straight” regarding the collapse of their father-daughter relationship.
