The SGF has mandated the use of President Tinubu’s full official title to eliminate recurring errors in public and media communications.
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has issued a formal correction regarding the official appellation of President Bola Tinubu following repeated media errors. In a statement signed by SGF Senator George Akume, the government urged organizations to verify titles to prevent “embarrassing and avoidable errors.”
The clarification followed a specific naming lapse in a national daily on May 7, 2026. Akume emphasized accuracy, stating, “For the record, the correct and official appellation is: ‘His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’.” To ensure future compliance, the OSGF directed the public to its official social media handles and email for verification. Akume noted that such lapses are easily avoidable through “proper verification from appropriate official sources.”
