EFCC officials reportedly interrogated Federal High Court Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho for hours over $160,000 allegedly found in his wife’s possession, amid a separate asset declaration probe by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday reportedly interrogated the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, John Tsoho, for several hours over a large sum of cash allegedly found in the possession of his wife. An EFCC source disclosed that the questioning followed the interception of the judge’s wife by operatives while she was travelling to Benue State.
According to the source, the woman was reportedly stopped by EFCC operatives and returned to Abuja after $160,000 was allegedly discovered in her possession. “EFCC interrogated the Chief Judge, Tsoho, for hours on Tuesday over his wife’s cash haul,” the source said. The circumstances surrounding the funds and the purpose of the trip have yet to be officially clarified.
The development comes amid increased scrutiny of the Chief Judge, who is scheduled to appear before the Code of Conduct Bureau on March 16, 2026, over allegations that he failed to declare his assets as required by law. A petition reportedly accused Tsoho of violating the Code of Conduct law by failing to fully disclose assets, including three accounts with United Bank for Africa and another with Access Bank. If the bureau establishes a prima facie case, charges could be filed that may attract a prison term of up to 10 years and a 10-year ban from holding public office.
