PDP wins Gwagwalada chairmanship as APC retains AMAC

The PDP clinched the Gwagwalada chairmanship seat while the APC retained control of AMAC in the FCT area council elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mohammed Kasim, has won the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory.

Announcing the result, INEC returning officer Philip Akpeni said Kasim polled 22,165 votes to defeat the APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who scored 17,788 votes, while APGA’s Biko Umar secured 1,687 votes. “That Mohammed Kasim of PDP, having certified the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Akpeni said.

Meanwhile, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC was declared winner with 40,295 votes.

The collation officer, Andrew Abue, said the ADC polled 12,109 votes, while the PDP secured 3,398 votes. Abue stated that total valid votes stood at 62,861, with 65,197 votes cast, out of 837,338 registered voters and 65,676 accredited voters.
