Borno State’s Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID, Abubakar A. Balteh, has died following a fatal car accident on Saturday.
The Borno State Police Command has announced the tragic passing of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abubakar A. Balteh, who died on Saturday, February 21, 2026, following a fatal motor vehicle accident. Until his untimely death, Balteh served as the head of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where he was a key figure in overseeing high-level investigations and maintaining public order. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Command described the late officer as a “dedicated and diligent professional who served the force with commitment until his passing.” While specific details regarding the location and cause of the crash remain undisclosed, the Command expressed deep regret over the loss and offered Islamic prayers for the deceased, invoking, “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un” (Indeed, we belong to Allah and indeed to Him we shall return). Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced shortly as tributes continue to pour in for the veteran investigator.
