Court backs David Mark as ADC leader in landmark ruling

A Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress, dismissing a suit by Rep. Leke Abejide challenging the emergence of Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as national chairman and secretary respectively.

The courts have spoken — David Mark’s grip on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is legitimate.

Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday dismissed Rep. Leke Abejide’s suit challenging the emergence of former Senate President Mark as national chairman and former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, ruling it lacked merit and was non-justiciable.

According to Vanguard, the judge held that Abejide lacked legal standing, having failed to demonstrate any violation of his rights, and had also neglected the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms. Justice Liman further affirmed that the July 29, 2025 NEC meeting — monitored by INEC — that produced the Mark-Aregbesola leadership was conducted lawfully.
