Paris stressed it remained committed to the Burkinabe people, citing the longstanding relationship between both nations, while urging French citizens in the country to exercise increased vigilance.
The fallout marks another escalation in strained ties between France and military-led West African governments. Burkina Faso’s junta had earlier accused France of neo-colonial ambitions and support for subversive networks and terrorists, Sahara Reporters reported.
