Court orders INEC to deregister Peter Obi’s NDC over logo dispute

A Federal High Court in Lokoja has set aside its earlier judgment recognising Peter Obi’s Nigeria Democratic Congress as a political party, ordering a fresh hearing over a disputed logo claimed by the Peace Movement Party.

Peter Obi’s new political vehicle just hit a major speed bump. A Federal High Court in Lokoja has set aside its December 10, 2025 judgment that had directed INEC to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party, citing a constitutional defect.

Justice Isah Dashen ruled the Peace Movement Party (PMP) should have been heard, since it claims the NDC’s registration was based on a logo it had earlier submitted to INEC. He said the failure to hear PMP rendered the proceedings a nullity, and noted material facts were suppressed in the earlier case.

The court ordered the status quo restored to what it was before the December judgment, pending a fresh hearing. PMP’s counsel says the substantive dispute remains unresolved, People Gazette reports.
