Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he will consult widely before deciding whether to contest the 2027 presidency, telling youth groups urging him to run that a presidential race is “not a computer game.”
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has responded cautiously to growing calls for him to contest the 2027 presidential election, saying he would consult widely before making any decision.
Jonathan spoke on Thursday while receiving youth groups at his Abuja office who pressed him to return to the presidential race.
“You are asking me to come and contest the next election. Presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you and I’ll consult widely,” he told the visitors.
The former president used the occasion to challenge the youths to back their enthusiasm with action, questioning how many of them actually held valid voter cards.
He also lamented Nigeria’s persistently low voter turnout, describing it as the worst he had witnessed across 14 African countries where he had monitored elections, and called on INEC to urgently investigate the causes.
