According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the Independent National Electoral Commission has declared that any party primaries conducted after the May 30 deadline for the 2027 general elections are invalid.
The electoral umpire warned political parties that late primaries will not be recognised, raising the stakes for parties still sorting out internal contests. The development comes amid ongoing legal battles over parts of INEC’s revised election timetable, with recent court rulings questioning some of the commission’s deadlines.
