Nigeria’s mining sector is getting fresh international attention — and Turkey wants in. According to Business Insider Africa , both countries just signed a major mining cooperation deal aimed at boosting investment, technology transfer, and energy collaboration.
Nigeria says it’s serious about cleaning up the sector too. Authorities revealed that over 300 illegal miners have been arrested, while more than 100 illegal mining sites have been recovered nationwide. The government believes the crackdown, plus easier business rules, is helping attract foreign investors despite lingering security worries.
Nigeria’s Solid Minerals Minister, Dele Alake, said the partnership will help modernise mining operations with Turkish expertise and digital systems.
Meanwhile, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar called Nigeria a strategic gateway for wider African investment opportunities.
