A South African activist has sparked controversy after linking her anti-immigration stance to personal experiences amid rising xenophobic tensions.
Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has drawn backlash after explaining her stance amid rising anti-immigrant tensions in South Africa, particularly targeting Nigerians. In a viral video, she linked her views to a personal family experience involving alleged identity fraud.
“Maybe I am a bitter person, who knows,” she said, recounting how her mother discovered she was unknowingly married to a Nigerian man, causing identity complications. She added, “Maybe it’s a childhood trauma… But at the end of the day, it is what’s driving me.”
Her movement advocates stricter immigration controls and prioritising citizens’ access to jobs and services. At a recent protest, she stated, “We want our country back, and we are not negotiating on that.”
Her comments come amid growing concerns over xenophobic violence and calls for government action.
