The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says it will deport at least 110 Nigerians as part of a wider removal of 355 West Africans over immigration violations including visa overstays and unlawful entry.
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that at least 110 Nigerians will be deported from the United States as part of a broader enforcement operation targeting West African migrants. The agency said the move is part of a wider crackdown that will see 355 West Africans returned to their home countries.
The DHS, which released the list under its West Africa Operations Watch initiative, also published names and photographs of all individuals marked for deportation. Nigeria accounts for 110 of those listed, making it the second-highest after Liberia with 94, while Ghana and Senegal recorded 30 and 19 respectively.
According to the department, those affected were flagged for immigration violations including visa overstays, unlawful entry and failure to meet residency requirements. Other countries represented on the list include Cameroon, The Gambia, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Niger, Guinea, Togo, Mali, Benin and Guinea-Bissau. Officials described the exercise as a coordinated operation across several US states.
