US panel accuses Nigerian security forces of collusion with militias, even as Washington ramps up claims of targeted action against ISIS-linked groups, according to Vanguard News.
The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) alleges that some police and army personnel have worked alongside armed Fulani militias in attacks and abductions across Nigeria. The report also says about 1.3 million people have been displaced in the Middle Belt amid escalating violence the report states.
In a related development, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon to prioritise protection of Nigerian Christians targeted by ISIS, a move he claimed contributed to the killing of ISIS’ second-in-command in Nigeria. Nigerian authorities have yet to respond officials.
