The United States has granted permanent residency to Ghana’s fugitive former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta, despite him being declared a fugitive and charged with corruption back home.
Ghana wanted him. America just gave him a green card.
Punch Newspaper reports that the United States has granted permanent residency to Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former finance minister who has been living in the US since January 2025 receiving treatment for prostate cancer.
Despite being declared a fugitive by Ghanaian authorities in February 2025 and formally charged with corruption in November, a US Immigration Court ruled the criminal charges in Ghana “not credible.”
Ofori-Atta, 66, served as finance minister from 2017 to 2024 under former President Nana Akufo-Addo, overseeing controversial tax reforms and IMF negotiations.
Ghana’s current President John Mahama is not letting this go quietly.
