A U.S.-based Nigerian nurse has been arraigned in Illinois after being charged with felony sexual assault following an investigation that reportedly linked him to the alleged crime through DNA evidence.
A U.S.-based Nigerian nurse, Olufemi Olaifa, has been arraigned in Illinois after being charged with one count of felony criminal sexual assault linked to an incident at a rehabilitation facility, People Gazette reports.
According to the Barrington Police Department (BPD), the case began in February when officers responded to a report from a 30-year-old female resident of Alden Estates of Barrington, who alleged she had been sexually assaulted by a male nurse working at the facility.
Police said detectives immediately launched an investigation and collected DNA evidence from the complainant. The forensic analysis reportedly matched Mr. Olaifa, leading prosecutors to approve a Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault charge.
The 40-year-old nurse was scheduled to appear before a court in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, for a detention hearing. Authorities said the rehabilitation facility cooperated fully with investigators.
