Tinubu: Media shouldn’t be a megaphone for terrorists

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian journalists to report responsibly and avoid amplifying terrorists, criminals or misinformation.

MEDIA WARNING

President Bola Tinubu has warned Nigerian journalists against turning the media into a “megaphone for terrorists” and criminal groups.

According to Vanguard, Tinubu spoke at the inaugural Presidential Press Corps dinner, where he urged the press to put national interest above sensational reporting, especially as Nigeria battles security threats.

The President said freedom of expression remained vital to democracy but insisted it must not become freedom to defame or mislead. He asked journalists to choose facts over falsehood, substance over sensation and credibility over clickbait.

Tinubu also said Nigeria’s economy was stabilising, with stronger revenues, higher foreign reserves and renewed investor confidence, adding that intensified security operations had led to the rescue of hostages and recovery of communities under attack.
