Thailand has become the first country to enforce a mandatory 21-day quarantine for travellers arriving from or transiting through the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda amid growing Ebola fears.
According to Peoples Gazette, the new rule took effect on May 27 as authorities tightened border controls following the worsening outbreak in Central Africa.
Travellers from affected countries must now enter only through Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and face strict health monitoring. The move comes as global concern rises over the fast-spreading Ebola outbreak, with several countries already rolling out travel restrictions and enhanced screenings.
Health officials say the 21-day isolation period matches Ebola’s maximum incubation window. Thailand says the measures are aimed at preventing any possible local transmission.
