The 2026 International Day for the Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, themed “Healing through Memory,” underscores the importance of remembering victims and aiding survivors. Nigeria has grappled with Boko Haram since 2009, resulting in over 100,000 deaths and numerous abductions.
Preserving victims’ stories is crucial to fighting terrorism. While anger and revenge are understandable, remembrance should foster healing and prevent the exploitation of victims’ narratives to spread hate, especially online.
