Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara revealed that the state’s Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo was once a hub for drug trafficking. He made the statement during the commissioning of the upgraded hospital and a new General Hospital. Fubara detailed how the site was previously used for drug distribution to inmates, prompting his administration to secure the area with fencing and controlled access. The upgraded neuropsychiatric hospital now includes a 100-bed rehabilitation center.
