Using ambulances to convey corpses can spread infection – Doctors

Public health experts warn that using ambulances for corpse transport risks spreading infectious diseases, especially when the deceased died from contagion. Bodies can secrete fluids, making them a public health concern. Akwa Ibom State has banned the practice, mandating hearses for burials.

Dr. Ekem John, Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner for Health, stated that ambulances used for corpses will be impounded. Experts like Dr. Adebayo Onajole and Dr. Austine Aipoh emphasize the need for strict sterilization and, ideally, separate vehicles for living patients and the deceased to prevent outbreaks.
