The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has denied claims that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, engaged in partisan political campaigning or called off a protest, insisting he has remained politically neutral and only communicates civic and moral guidance.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed claims that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, engaged in political campaigning for any government in power, insisting that he has consistently maintained a neutral stance on partisan politics. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the church said the cleric has repeatedly encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in elections by choosing candidates of their choice, rather than endorsing any political party.
The church also refuted reports alleging that Adeboye called off a planned protest, explaining that he only conveyed directives from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding adjustments to a three-day prayer programme and rally. “Pastor E.A. Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship in Nigeria to members of the RCCG on the updated plan to have the grand finale of the Three Day Prayer Program in a centralized venue and hold a rally around the venue. This was communicated by PFN to all churches under PFN in Nigeria,” it said.
RCCG further rejected suggestions that the cleric has been silent on national issues, stating that Adeboye has consistently spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance and leadership, often through moral and spiritual guidance rather than partisan engagement. “Let it be clearly stated: Pastor Adeboye and The RCCG will not be defined by falsehood, and neither will the Church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly circulated as facts,” the statement said. The church urged the public and media to verify information through official RCCG communication channels, adding: “If a claim is not communicated, verified, or endorsed through RCCG’s official communication channels, it should not be regarded as an official position of the Church.”
