Peter Obi files N8bn defamation suit against Kenneth Okonkwo

Former Anambra governor and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has filed an N8 billion defamation lawsuit against his former spokesman Kenneth Okonkwo following a bitter falling out between the once-close allies.

Premium Times reports the suit was filed at the Anambra State High Court in Onitsha, triggered by remarks Okonkwo made during a television appearance. Obi described the allegations as false, malicious and deeply damaging to his hard-earned reputation.

He is demanding N5 billion in general damages, N2 billion in aggravated damages, and N1 billion in exemplary damages. Obi is also seeking a public apology, a full retraction, and a court order restraining Okonkwo from making further similar statements. The former Labour Party flagbearer isn’t letting this slide quietly. Okonkwo, for his part, has refused to back down standing firmly by every word of his claims.
