They were almost home. Almost safe. Almost.
Six Almajiri pupils were snatched by terrorists at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday as they made their way back from a farm in Unguwar Gere, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State — intercepted by attackers just as they were about to enter the village.
According to SaharaReporters, residents from neighbouring communities and soldiers stationed at Supa Camp in Kuyallo mobilised rapidly and engaged the attackers in a bid to rescue the children. The joint response worked — partly. The terrorists retreated. But they took the boys with them.
The six abducted pupils have been identified as Abdul Mali Malam, Al Amin Biyar, Abdurrahman Sama Ila, Jamilu Malam, Usumanu Bilya and Abdul Ganiyu Samaila.
As of filing time, security authorities had issued no official statement, while rescue efforts were said to be ongoing.
The attack lands as yet another blow to a community already reeling. Just days earlier, SaharaReporters reported that bandits — supposedly “repentant” — killed an unspecified number of farmers and abducted nearly 20 others in the same Birnin Gwari LGA.
The pattern is unmistakable and deeply alarming. Birnin Gwari is burning — farmers targeted at dawn, children snatched at dusk, and a security apparatus that responds but rarely rescues.
Six names. Six families. One question screaming for an answer — where are these boys tonight?
