The Oyo State government has denied paying ransom to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire LGA, calling the claim false and misleading, according to The Nation.
OYO RANSOM DENIAL
The Oyo State government has denied reports that it paid a ransom to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted by bandits in Oriire Local Government Area.
According to The Nation, the denial followed claims by social media activist VeryDarkMan, who alleged the government paid ransom but that the bandits still refused to release the captives roughly 50 days after the abduction.
Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade dismissed the claim as “far from the truth,” insisting no ransom had been paid directly or indirectly, and urged the public to rely only on official government channels for updates.
