Owo church attack: Court sentenced four to death by hanging

A Federal High Court has sentenced four men to death by hanging for their roles in the deadly 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

According to Vanguard News, the convicted defendants were found guilty of multiple terrorism charges linked to the massacre that left over 40 worshippers dead and more than 100 injured during Pentecost service. Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, relying on confessional statements, witness accounts, and forensic evidence. One co-defendant was discharged for lack of evidence.

The Department of State Services (DSS) led the prosecution. The judgment marks one of Nigeria’s most significant terror convictions in recent years, bringing partial closure to the tragic church attack that shocked the nation.
