The Court of Appeal has dismissed Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s appeal against an amended lawsuit challenging his eligibility to contest the 2028 Ondo governorship election.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal filed by Lucky Aiyedatiwa challenging the amendment of a suit seeking to stop him from contesting the 2028 Ondo governorship election. In a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, the court held that the appeal lacked merit and ordered the governor to pay N2 million in costs.
The appellate court affirmed an earlier ruling of the Federal High Court in Akure that allowed the plaintiff, Akindele Egbuwalo, to amend his suit challenging the governor’s eligibility. The case hinges on constitutional provisions concerning tenure limits after Aiyedatiwa, who first assumed office in December 2024 following the death of Rotimi Akeredolu, was later elected governor in February 2025
