Peter Obi on Monday led a protest to the National Assembly, demanding the inclusion of real-time electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Amendment Bill.
Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, on Monday led a group of protesters to the National Assembly in Abuja to press for electoral reforms. Obi was joined by several supporters, including popular activist Aisha Yesufu, as the demonstrators gathered at the entrance of the parliamentary complex to air their demands.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, Obi said Nigerians were weary of electoral controversies and called for a transparent process ahead of future elections. “We have suffered the danger. We don’t want any glitch again. We want things to go well. Allow the elections to go through the normal process. Whoever wins, we would accept,” he said. “So, why are you bringing this confusion?”
The protest was organised to demand the approval of real-time electronic transmission of results from polling units, a key provision being debated in the Electoral Amendment Bill currently before the National Assembly. The demonstrators urged lawmakers to strengthen the electoral process to ensure credibility and public trust in future elections.
