OYO TEACHERS RESUME
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its statewide strike in Oyo and directed public primary and secondary school teachers to return to work on Thursday, July 2, Vanguard reports.
The industrial action was triggered by the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area. According to the union, the decision followed renewed engagement with the state government, appeals from stakeholders and a directive from the national leadership.
The Oyo government reportedly assured the union of intensified efforts to secure the release of abducted victims and improve security around schools.
Vanguard reports that the government also pledged to strengthen the Safe School Initiative, establish a Joint Security Task Force, improve emergency response systems and provide support for affected families and rescued victims.
