Nigerians top list of ‘worst of the worst’ african criminals facing U.S. deportation

Nigeria has topped the list of African countries with the highest number of convicted nationals awaiting deportation from the United States, according to a report by Peoples Gazette.

Citing data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the report said 125 Nigerians are currently on the deportation list, ahead of Somalia with 95 and Ghana with 32. The DHS described those being removed as some of the “worst of the worst” criminal offenders arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The offences range from fraud and romance scams to drug-related crimes, weapons violations and sexual offences. The figure marks an increase from 97 Nigerians listed for deportation in February. Peoples Gazette also reported that 287 Nigerians were in U.S. federal prisons as of May, serving sentences for various crimes.
