Nigerian troops rescue 360 captives from Boko Haram enclave

Although locals and security sources said Boko Haram released the captives, the army said it rescued them following a major intelligence-led operation.

Nigerian troops have rescued 360 people abducted by Boko Haram during a major operation in the Mandara Mountains of Borno State.

Army said troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), comprising Special Forces and personnel of Sector 1, carried out the operation after weeks of intelligence gathering, covert reconnaissance and operational planning.

According to Sahara Reporters, Nigerian soldiers rescued 360 abductees from a Boko Haram enclave in the Mandara Mountains, one of the insurgents’ long-standing strongholds in Borno State. The operation freed dozens of women, men and children who had been held in captivity by the terror group. Army authorities described the mission as a significant success against Boko Haram, though two infants reportedly died from exhaustion during the evacuation.

The rescued victims have since been moved to safe locations for medical treatment and humanitarian support. The operation marks another major push by Nigerian forces to weaken insurgent networks in the North-East.
