Troops rescue widow of late General Rabe from Katsina bandits
The Defence Headquarters has announced the rescue of Mrs Amina Abubakar, widow of late Major-General Abubakar Rabe (Rtd.), former Director of Defence Information, following a military operation against bandits in Katsina State. Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen Samaila Uba, confirmed the rescue was achieved during intensified search-and-rescue operations. Amina had been abducted alongside her husband on May 30, 2026, when their vehicle was ambushed along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area while the couple were travelling to a wedding. The retired general died in captivity two weeks after the abduction, but his widow remained held by her captors until soldiers engaged the bandits in a gun battle on Monday, leading to her release.
FG resumes mass trial of terrorism suspects, 600 to face court this week
The Federal Government has resumed mass prosecution of terrorism suspects before a Federal High Court in Abuja, with about 600 individuals expected to face trial between Monday and Thursday. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, confirmed the development, noting that the current exercise follows an earlier round in which approximately 500 suspects were prosecuted.
