Former NBA coach David Fizdale will lead Nigeria’s men’s basketball team as they chase qualification for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Nigeria’s men’s national basketball team has appointed David Fizdale as head coach ahead of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The former Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks coach said, “It will be fun and exciting calling timeouts and drawing plays up again as a head coach.”
Fizdale, currently an NBA TV analyst, hopes to guide Nigeria to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, his hometown. He added, “What is driving me the most is helping Nigeria not only qualify and medal, but to do that in front of my family.” Former Nigeria coach Mike Brown reportedly encouraged Fizdale to accept the role.
