Nigeria, Ethiopia seal deal to repatriate over 100 imprisoned citizens

Nigeria and Ethiopia have concluded arrangements for a prisoner transfer agreement that will allow more than 100 Nigerians serving jail terms in Ethiopia to be repatriated. The agreement is expected to be formally signed in Addis Ababa following years of negotiations between both countries.

According to Channels Television, Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi were in Ethiopia for the signing process. Odumegwu-Ojukwu said four Nigerian inmates died while the agreement awaited completion. She described the deal as a humanitarian step and thanked Ethiopian authorities for their cooperation. The government said citizen welfare remains a priority abroad.
