Nigeria’s data privacy watchdog has joined forces with Meta to strengthen data protection across the country. According to Premium Times, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) launched the Meta-Supported Initiative for Data Protection (M-SIDP), a programme designed to improve safeguards for data users and promote a safer digital ecosystem.
The initiative follows the conclusion of an NDPC investigation into Meta’s data processing practices, which ended in a court-approved settlement in 2025. As part of the agreement, Meta committed to supporting a two-year public-facing data protection programme.
The NDPC said the project will focus on governance, research and development while maintaining its regulatory independence. The move comes amid rising concerns over cyberattacks and data breaches in Nigeria.
