Manchester United are reportedly growing ‘increasingly confident’ of securing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah on a free transfer this summer, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The 29-year-old, whose contract expires next month, is being tracked by Barcelona and Bayern Munich. However, United believe Tah’s ‘long-standing ambition’ to play in the Premier League gives them an advantage.

Tah has made 401 appearances for Leverkusen and earned 35 caps for Germany during a decade-long stay. He could become United’s third signing in what is expected to be a pivotal summer rebuild.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also ‘optimistic’ about beating Chelsea to the signing of Ipswich striker Liam Delap.

Journalist Ben Jacobs posted: “Manchester United are optimistic of signing Liam Delap if they win the #UEL… Delap is waiting to see who gets what at the end of the season, but #MUFC have made a strong pitch already.”

United face Tottenham in the Europa League final on May 21, with Champions League qualification at stake.
